About the course

Artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in professional decision environments. Algorithms rank candidates, predictive models influence risk assessments, and generative AI tools assist with analysis, writing, and planning. Yet while AI capability has advanced rapidly, governance has not kept pace. When intelligent systems influence decisions, responsibility, oversight, and accountability can become unclear. This course introduces Human–AI Governance Engineering, a practical discipline focused on designing decision systems where human judgement and artificial intelligence interact responsibly. Rather than focusing only on algorithms, the programme examines the decision environments in which humans and machines collaborate to produce professional judgement. You will learn how to: • analyse AI-supported decision environments • identify governance risks within human–AI workflows • design decision processes that preserve accountability and oversight • document reasoning so decisions remain inspectable and defensible • build institutional capability for responsible AI adoption Throughout the course you will apply these concepts to a real decision system from your own professional context. As you progress, you will build a Human–AI Governance Engineering Toolkit for mapping decision processes, diagnosing governance risks, documenting reasoning, and designing governance-ready workflows. By the end of the course you will produce a Human–AI Governance Blueprint for your chosen decision system — demonstrating how intelligent systems can be integrated without undermining professional responsibility. This course is designed for professionals working in environments where AI influences real decisions across education, research, public service, and complex organisations.
